Things change. Like it or not, whether we are open to changes or not, finally, things evolve and change.

The transport humans use evolved. Chariots and horses became the means we move in nowadays: cars, motorcycles, bicycles, trains, airplanes, …

The way we communicate has changed. From the whistling of shepherds, pigeons or letters, to the present day where there are plenty of tools such as mobile phones, emails, internet or social networks.

Even circus evolved. Since the bearded lady or the cycling bear, for instance, we have moved to a much more sophisticated circus, and why not say, more ethical and more entertaining as the media: Cirque du Soleil

Until we reached the Cirque du Soleil, society didn’t believe another kind of circus was possible.

Since the beginning of civilization, human beings have used technology to improve their development and welfare. Understanding technology as:

A set of theories and techniques that enable the practical use of scientific knowledge

In all sectors: energy, communications, transportation, food, etc. Human being has used technology to its evolution. But, have we used technology to evolve in all sectors or activities? No. Regarding the zoos, spaces and animal treatment, these places are still in the nineteenth century.

In zoos we have not allowed nonhuman animals to benefit from technological advances like humans have done in everything that happens to us. In this aspect, and in many others, we are indebted with animals. Technological advances are here to use them. We can and should use them. Humans already have an ethical alternative not to have animals in captivity and to continue enjoying them thanks to technology. That alternative is called: eZOO

In this link to eZOO’s Website you have a video explaining this fascinating project.

eZOO is positioned as the most important ever known strategy for protecting biodiversity. Being a very ambitious program on the scientific knowledge we have about animals.

eZOO has two main expressions:

  1. The virtual part will basically be a society of scientific knowledge about animals located in internet and with different ways to access to this knowledge.
  2. We also have the offline or exhibition part. These theme parks will be equipped with the latest technology. Virtual reality technologies, holograms, surround projections, augmented reality, etc. Different elements that can afford to have a good knowledge and a good approach to animal behaviors.

To see how mature an idea like eZOO can be we find a country like Costa Rica that just have closed all zoos.  Turning them into botanical gardens and moving the animals to sanctuaries and reserves where they live a decent life.

Why countries that boast of protecting nature have jaguars or monkeys locked up behind bars?

That is the question that the environmental authorities of Costa Rica asked themselves. And they acted accordingly. The rest of the world should do the same and take advantage of technological advances to convert their ZOO into eZOO.

Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come

We talked before about Cirque du Soleil. Now it is time for the eZOO. eZOO, will be what Cirque du Soleil was for the world of circus. Its evolution, not its disappearance.

The Franz Weber Foundation is promoting in Switzerland the first ever Vision Nemo.  The liquid version of eZOO. In the video – presentation that you can see on the website, from minute 2.31 we have recreated 3D images of what Vision Nemo will be. From minute 3:25 I give a review about the technologies we show in the video speaking about the infinite potential of Vision Nemo.

Because all of us already know that the largest and most spectacular aquarium is the Ocean. Don’t settle for an imitation. Visit the real ocean. Visit: Vision Nemo
